Spring Break
As Mitch went home Friday afternoon he was not really looking forward to break because of the fact that he was going to be working all week long. Mitch works at the Rosemount Ice Arena and he was scheduled over spring break. It started off on Sunday when he worked a from 5 to 1130. The first official day of spring break came and Mitch was up at 9 at on his way to work from 10 to 430, which he was scheduled this shift until Thursday. He wasn't to mad that he had to work all these days over break because he desperately needed the money. He wrapped up his break working Friday and Saturday from 3 to 1130, but of course he still had time to work on his extremely important English paper.

Paper Progress
My topic for this paper is still under question. I am leaning towards violence in video games as my topic. I think this topic will be good for this paper because there are to very distinct sides of this topic. One side is that violence in video games effects violence out in the real world. The other side of this topic is that violent video games do not have any substantial effect on people. I am still undecided on which side I will be taking, but whichever side I decide to choose could be strongly argued. The toughest part about this paper will be choosing a side and researching both sides of the topic.

A Modest Proposal
Jonathan Swift's modest proposal to solve the poverty level and famine in Ireland was to eat year old children. When I first read through this I had to go back a couple sentences to see if I was reading correctly; unfortunately I was. This proposal by Swift is extremely far fetched, but if you really think about it he is one of the few who have tried to help this problem in Ireland. When I read this proposal I was a little bit disturbed, but after I finished I went back and read the background on Jonathan Swift. I was pleased to read that he was concidered a master of satire.

Name
Mitchell Laurence Hatcher. My name really doesn't have any special meaning, or atleast my parents didn't intend to have any when I was named. My middle name is named after my great grandpa Lauerence, but thats about it. I never met him, I was born after he passed away. Mitchell does not have any special meaning in my family. I guess my parents like the name and just went with it. I looked up Mitchell on the internet and babynames.com said, "Who is like God?" is the meaning for Mitchell. Im not really sure what that means totally but it does sound pretty cool.

Reaserch and Questions
The library session helped me out a great deal. I had no idea how much information we had acces to the library. The person giving the tour was extremely helpful in all areas. I liked using the database for articles. It was suprising that you could search topics and find thousands of related articles. This feature helped me relize that I probably need to narrow my topic more. I plan on using this feature much more in the future. After class was out, I went and found the books I looked up earlier and they were not hard to find at all. I ended up checking out one of them.
This paper is not as detailed as I first thought it would be. At first i thought that you would pick a topic and basically tell everything there is to tell about it, but now i relize that i need to narrow down my topic. Genetic engineering is a very broad topic. I have narrowed it down to gene therapy in humans or stem cell reaserch. The only problem i might have with this is finding sources that are not outdated. This technology is growing very rapidly and it might be difficult to find what is happening right now.

Cold is an understatement
Cold weather sucks. There is no way around it, especially when you are in college and the only way to get from place to place is to walk there. When it is well below zero walking back from class becomes more like an adventure. I usually walk straight to and straight from class, but when its too cold to walk it takes me twice as long to get back. I snake through all the buildings on campus and take advantage of the buildings being connected by sky ways. Your mood also changes when the weather is so bad. You feel depressed and just want it to be warm and sunny again. During this weather most people don't take a step outside for days, and that is not good for you.

"Dig" - Incubus
Incubus is one of my all time favorite bands and i love all their albums and have seen them in concert. Incubus's new album came out last year sometime, at first i didn't like it as much as their other albums but it grew on me and is now one of my favorite albums. The song i like most from that album is "Dig". To me this song is about friendship and how important true friends are in your life. It makes you think how much of an impact a friend can be to you. My favorite lyrics from this song are: "Remind me that we'll always have each other. When everything else is gone." To me this is about when you go through hard times in life and you feel like nothing is right, you will still have the friends that mean most to you at your side. This song makes me appreciate my friends and know they will be there for me and i will be there for them.
